Lubbock Police Arrest Man for Stalking and Scratching Off Serial Number on Rifle
A Lubbock man was arrested at a local motel for stalking and scratching off the serial number on a rifle.
KAMC News reports that police were initially called on Thursday, June 30th after the victim said they had a dispute with 27-year-old Jose Martinez. They said that Martinez had damaged their car with a cinder block, repeatedly damaged their mailbox and even urinated on their front porch. The victim said that they were scared of Martinez damaging their property as well as him possibly escalating matters and hurting them.
Martinez was located at the Satellite Motel in the 2900 block of Clovis Road. After being detained, an officer searched his motel room.
In the room, the officer found 2 rifles underneath a pillow, a rifle under the bed and a rifle in 2 pieces in a case. The serial number on one of the rifles was scratched off and painted over, leading to the tampering with serial numbers charge. The officer found further evidence that led them believe the rifles were stolen, as well.
On top of the tampering with serial numbers charge, Martinez was charged with stalking. He remains in the Lubbock County Detention Center on bonds totaling $22,000.
