An accident on Saturday put a man in the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Lubbock Police and other first responders were called to the scene on East Loop 289 just north of 50th Street at 6 a.m.

A car had reportedly fallen from an overpass in the 3900 block and caught fire. Members of Lubbock Fire Rescue managed to extinguish the fire but had to use the Jaws of Life to rescue the driver from the wreckage.

It’s reported that the male driver was taken by EMS to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.

Crash investigators believe the car was traveling northbound on the Loop when it veered into the median, hit a guardrail, and then fell between the overpasses.
