Lubbock Man Arrested for Robbing Bank of America

Lubbock police have a suspect in custody who they say is responsible for robbing a local bank. On Wednesday, Feb. 24, police were called to the Bank of America at 5144 82nd Street. Employees there told officers that a man had slipped a note to one of the tellers that made threats and demanded money.

The teller told police that she gave the man an unspecified amount of cash. The suspect then left the scene in a vehicle. Police did not say if he was armed at the time of the robbery. Employees of the bank say the man was a customer of the bank and that they recognized him.

After a short investigation, Lubbock police were able to identify the robbery suspect as 59-year-old David Edward Chambliss. Officers were also able to find his vehicle parked outside of the Extended Stay America on South Loop 289.

Chambliss was arrested and booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center. He faces charges of robbery and for possession of a controlled substance. His bond has not yet been set.

This is the first notable Lubbock bank robbery in several months. In October 2020, another man used a similar tactic as Chambliss to rob a People's Bank location in Lubbock.

58-year-old Kenneth Seaborne slipped a note to a bank teller demanding money and making threats, just as Chambliss did. Seaborne also robbed a bank in Odessa and Abilene before he was finally identified and caught.

Seaborne pled guilty to robbery in January 2021 and faces up to 20 years in prison.
