Lubbock ISD to Close Bowie Elementary School in 2019
Over the past week, Lubbock ISD has notified staff, teachers, parents and students that a campus will be closing at the end of the current school year.
KFYO News has learned that Bowie Elementary School, located at 2902 Chicago Avenue, will be closed in June 2019. Bowie Elementary was first opened in 1964 and was named in honor of Texas Revolutionary war hero Jim Bowie.
In the 2019-2020 school year, Bowie Elementary’s former students will attend Hardwick Elementary, which is located nearby at 1420 Chicago Avenue.
According to the Texas Education Agency website, in 2017-18, Hardwick Elementary School had an enrollment of 409 students. Bowie Elementary's was 231 students. Both campuses serve grades Pre-K through 5th grade.
Lubbock ISD is expected to announce additional information about the campus closing and information concerning student transfers and busing of students.
