Drivers in the City of Lubbock will have to slow down in some areas of town after the Lubbock City Council voted on Tuesday to adjust speed limits around the city. Not all speed limits are going down though. At the airport, you'll be able to drive a bit faster than in the past.
According to KAMC, changes to signs will take about two weeks for all the changes to take effect. The new speed limit signs will have red flags attached to them so drivers will notice the changes.
KAMC also reported that some streets will default to 30mph.
Other changes to speed limits included reducing 114th Street from easternmost city limits to Frankford Avenue to 45 mph and from Frankford Avenue to Upland Avenue to 50 mph.
On 98th street, the speed limit was reduced from 50 mph to 45 mph for all sections. However, a 40 mph speed limit from Nashville Avenue to Savannah Avenue remained.
On 82nd Street from University Avenue to the westernmost city limits the speed limit was reduced to 45 mph.
The speed limit at the airport was raised from 10 mph to 20 mph along the area where you can drop-off and pick-up passengers next to the terminal.
If you were hoping for the speed limit to be raised on the Marsha Sharp Freeway or Loop 289, you were out of luck.
While the speed limit changes do technically begin as soon as they are approved, drivers will really need to be on the lookout for the new signs as soon as they are installed around the city.
