LCU Lady Chaparrals Softball Lose to Simon Fraser in NAIA Women’s National Championship Pool Play
The Lady Chaps fell to the Simon Fraser Clan today in the NAIA Women's National Championship Pool Play 3-4. LCU (51-10) lost a close one today Simon Fraser (18-24) today.
LCU scored early on a Kayla Van Diren single to bring in Priscilla FaGaines, but Van Diren left the 1st base bag early and was called out.
Alyssa Freight pitched a great game for LCU and had a shut out going until the 6th. In the 6th Lauren Mew hit a single and brought in Hartman. Still in the 6th, Murphy hit a double down the right foul line that brought in Mew and Megan Durrant. The runs gave the Clan a 3-1 lead.
The Clan capitalized on 3 errors in the 7th to extend their lead over LCU. Amanda Longorio came in to relieve Freight in the 7th. Carly LePoutre was able to reach base on a wild throw by Sally Blackwell and advance on a sac bunt from Brittany Ribeiro. Kelsey Haberl then hit what should have been an easy ground out, but the ball was misplayed by Agree and a wild throw during the play from Kayla Van Dieren brought in LePoutre to extend the Clan lead 4-1.
LCU fought back in the bottom of the 7th with a Van Dieren 2 run homer to make it a 1 run game, but the the game ended on a Eltosise line out.
LCU will now play reigning national champion Reinhardt Saturday at 2:30 to finish pool play.
