The last day of school for Lamesa ISD has been canceled following what officials are calling a "potential terroristic threat."

The night of Thursday, May 19th, Lamesa ISD posted on its Facebook page that classes would be canceled for Friday, May 20th. The district said that administrators were made aware of a potential terroristic threat to the school. The exact nature of the threat is unknown.

"LISD acting on an abundance of caution will cancel the last half day of school on Friday, May 20th. This evening LISD administrators have been made aware of a potential terroristic threat to the school. The safety of our students is our top priority," the message on Facebook read in part.

Lamesa ISD said in the statement that it will still conduct all senior activities on Friday, including graduation.

The Lamesa Police Department and Sheriff's Department, along with Lamesa ISD School Resource Officers, will be on campus throughout the day.
