After today's Red Raider Club event at the McKenzie-Merket Alumni Center with Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby, Texas Tech Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt addressed the media.

Hocutt called the current situation with Red Raider Basketball head coach Billy Gillispie (pictured), "unusual and an unfortunate position".  He then went on to praise the Red Raider Basketball players stating they have represented Texas Tech in a 'first-class manner' on and off the court.

Hocutt said this current situation has two components, an NCAA rules component and a personnel component and he's very concerned about the information that has come forward in the past couple of weeks.

Hocutt discussed NCAA sanctions against Texas Tech Red Raider Basketball that were previously not made public.  He said the violations were secondary in nature concerning the number of accountable practice hours. The violations were self-submitted by Texas Tech back in January and that the sanctions have already been served.

Coach Gillispie and Hocutt were scheduled to meet last Friday, August 31 at 8a. Before the meeting was able to take place, Gillispie checked himself into University Medical Center. Hocutt further stated that a meeting has not yet taken place.
