Judge Ann-Marie Carruth Files to Run in '22 Republican Primary

Judge Ann-Marie Carruth of Lubbock, Texas officially filed on Tuesday to run in next year's Republican Primary for the remainder of the unexpired term for the 72nd District Court, which covers Lubbock and Crosby counties.

Judge Carruth was appointed this past January by Governor Greg Abbott to fill the vacancy on the 72nd District Court following the passing of Judge Ruben Reyes. Her current term on the court expires on December 31, 2022.

Judge Carruth started her judicial career in the middle of the last decade. She was first elected Lubbock County Justice of the Peace, Precinct 4 in 2014. Four years later, she again won the Republican Primary for Lubbock County Justice of the Peace, Pct. 4.

However, in the months in between the 2018 Primary and the 2018 General Election, Carruth was appointed by the Lubbock County Republican Party executive committee to replace the deceased David Nelson on the general election ballot for Lubbock County Court at Law No. 3.

Judge Carruth won the 2018 general election for Lubbock County Court at Law No. 3. Finally, just over two years after taking over Lubbock County Court at Law No. 3., on January 11, 2021, Governor Greg Abbott appointed Judge Carruth to fill the vacancy for the 72nd District Court.

Carruth's education includes earning a Bachelor of Arts in Agriculture from Texas Tech University and a Juris Doctor degree from Texas Tech University School of Law. As of January of this year, Carruth was also pursuing a Masters of Judicial Studies from the University of Nevada, Reno.

Carruth has not yet made any public remarks concerning her candidacy in the 2022 Republican Primary.
