Joyland Sets Final Hours, Dates for 2021 Season
Joyland Amusement Park is where the fun is, and the fun is about to wrap up for the year.
Let's jump to the end of the story: the final date for operations at Joyland is Labor Day, Monday, September 6th. After Labor Day, Joyland is closed for 2021. Now with that out of the way, let's look at the final four days one by one.
- Friday, September 3rd, 7 to 10 p.m.
- Saturday, September 4th, 2 to 10 p.m.
- Sunday, September 5th, 2 to 9 p.m.
- Monday, September 6th, 2 to 8 p.m.
On their website, Joyland attributes the closing to increasing COVID-19 case counts in Lubbock and the decreasing availability of workers. You have to respect Joyland for recognizing that they feel like they can't give their guests the experience they want to give them, so they're going to call it a season.

I had no idea that that area has been an amusement park since the 1940s, with the current family ownership jumping in around 1973. That's a heck of a lot of family fun to last seven to eight decades.
The park is up to 30 rides and is snuggly nestled inside Mackenzie Park. Generations upon generations of families have enjoyed the park. Over the past few years, it has become a right of passage to conquer the Dare Devil Drop, which is visible from Interstate 27 (and it's always a little sad when it's lit up for the last time of the year).
If you're catching this post early enough, Joyland is open this weekend, but we wanted to make sure you knew about the final four days of operation coming up next weekend.
