Former Texas Tech hurdler Jamele Mason finished fifth in his heat and 24th overall during the first round of the men's 400-meter hurdles at the 2012 London Olympics Friday morning.

Running for Puerto Rico Mason crossed the line with a time of 49.89, meaning he will not advance to Saturday’s semifinals.

David Green from Great Britain pulled away down the stretch to win the heat with a time of 48.89.

Mason finished his career as a Red Raider this spring by breaking the school record in his final race at the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Championships with a time of 48.89. He currently holds two of the top-five times in school history.

Seven former Texas Tech student-athletes are competing at the London Olympics. Sally Kipyego is scheduled to run in the final of the women’s 10-meter run Friday at 3:15 p.m. (CT).
