Family Shot at in Car; Lubbock Man Arrested

A Lubbock man was arrested back on Thursday, December 17th for shooting at a family in their car.

KAMC News reports that a husband, wife, their 2 children and another child were in a car on their way home from visiting another family in the Bowie Neighborhood when they noticed someone in an SUV following them.

The family tried driving through a residential area in an attempt to lose the SUV, but that didn't work.

The family was heading southbound on Slide Road near the South Plains Mall when the driver, the father, tried slowing down in hopes that the SUV would pass them. It's then said that the man driving the SUV aimed a handgun at the family while leaning over his passenger seat.

The family was able to obtain the license plate number of the SUV, but then the victims heard a gunshot.

When the family made it home, they located a bullet hole on the driver side of the car around 3 inches from where the children were sitting.

After giving officers the license plate number, officers quickly located the SUV in the 5400 block of 66th Street. The owner, 54-year-old John Lee Dunklin, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, child endangerment, deadly conduct and discharging a firearm inside the city.

Dunklin was able to post bond to be released from jail.
