The Dallas Mavericks beat the revamped Los Angeles Lakers 99-91 at Staples Center last night to open up the 2012-2013 NBA Season.

The Lakers are expected to be one of the top teams in the Western Conference this season with the additions of Dwight Howard (pictured) and Steve Nash. However, Howard and Kobe Bryant couldn't get the Lakers going as the Mavericks controlled the final three periods in their 8 point win. That's despite allowing Bryant to score 22 points and Pau Gasol leading the Lakers with 23 points.

Darren Collison led the Mavericks with 17 points and Brandan Wright scored 14 in only 19 minutes of action. Vince Carter continues in his role of Sixth Man for the Mavericks this season and he played over half of the game with 26 minutes and chipped in 11 points.

The Mavericks next game is tonight at Utah at 8 o'clock.
