State Representative John Frullo surprised many two weeks ago when he announced that he would not be running for reelection for Texas House District 84. When Frullo made the announcement though, it didn't take long for potential candidates to start their own campaigns for the open seat.
The filing period the the Republican and Democrat primaries began on November 13 and one of the first candidates to file was former Lubbock County Republican Chairman Carl Tepper.
Tepper officially announced his campaign on the Wednesday edition of The Chad Hasty Show with Matt Martin on KFYO. Tepper told the audience that despite his frustration with politics, he wants to do it better and improve things for those in District 84.
I've got to be honest, I was sizing up some of the other people I heard who might run, some are not running. I thought you know, I can't give it up without a fight. And I think I can do it better.
Tepper discussed the issue of rising property taxes and said he isn't satisfied with what the legislature has done.
I'm still annoyed with my property taxes every year. Dustin Burrows and I, it's no secret we're good friends, with all due respect to Dustin, I just don't think property taxes are fixed.
Matt Martin asked Tepper about the PUF Fund and if Tepper would fight for Texas Tech. Tepper said that he is the only Red Raider right now running in the race and that an opponent of his is an Aggie and that now is the time to send another Red Raider to the Texas House as someone who can help Texas Tech breakup the PUF fund.
Tepper also talked about transportation issues impacting House District 84 and West Texas.
Shortly after the interview, Texas State Senator Charles Perry endorsed Carl Tepper in his campaign for House District 84. You can visit Tepper's website here.
