According to, 5-year-old Ariel Young who was left critically injured and in a coma following a crash this month involving former Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach Britt Reid is now awake, her family announced via her gofundme page.

The post is brief in the update simply saying, "Ariel is awake." Young was in a coma for 11 days.

Reid, son of Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, was an assistant coach for the Chiefs when the crash happened but did not travel with the team for the championship game. His contract was not renewed shortly after the Super Bowl.

The day before the Chiefs were scheduled to leave for the Super Bowl Kansas City Police responded to a crash near the team's training complex next to Arrowhead Stadium when Britt Reid's truck slammed into two vehicles on the side of a highway entrance ramp, injuring Ariel and another child inside one of the cars.

After the crash, Reid told investigators that he had a prescription for Adderall and had two or three drinks when the crash occurred. That investigation is still ongoing.

Ariel Young's gofundme was up to $493,000 by the time of this writing.

Young's family asks that if you send a message via her page to add where you are from so she can know that she's been supported by people all over, "When sending a message to this page if you don’t mind, can you please include where you are from, I’d like to print the messages out and show Ariel one day when she is older so she can see the huge outpouring of love and support she has from all over the world."
