You MUST Wear Red or You Can’t Get Into Tonight’s Texas Tech Game
Texas Tech basketball is ranked 18th in the country following a wild stretch where the team played Iowa State, Kansas, Baylor, Oklahoma State and Kansas State. The Red Raiders went 3-2 in the stretch after playing Oklahoma State out of order due to the Cowboys' issues with the COVID protocol.
The Red Raiders have dealt with issues of their own, losing to Iowa State in Ames, Iowa to start their Big 12 season with only seven active players. Then, after that game, the Red Raiders beat Kansas and Baylor without Terrence Shannon, Jr. and a limited Kevin McCullar was only available in Waco.
Shannon, Jr. returned vs Kansas State, but a disjointed effort and a valiant effort by Kansas State in the second half proved that anything can happen in the Big 12 basketball world.
That leads us to the Red Raiders' first rematch of the year in tonight's Iowa State matchup.
Programming alert, the game is on ESPNU with tipoff scheduled for 8 p.m., but if you're attending the game, you have to wear red.
That's right, Texas Tech Basketball is claiming that you MUST wear red to get into the RED OUT game tonight at the United Supermarkets Arena.
The Texas Tech student section will be a Red Sea tonight as well, with the Raider Riot getting the word out to their members of the student body.
The responses to the news were varied. I dropped a meme:
Raider Red wanted to make sure his mustache counted:
And fans were pitting the former coach begging for fans to come out against Texas Tech turning fans away because they weren't wearing red.
I don't think they can legit turn you away, but you'll definitely want to wear red just in case.
UPDATE: It was definitely a joke, but still wear red.
As far as the game goes, the Red Raiders are undefeated at home this season after beating their non-conference opponents and their first two conference opponents in the United Supermarkets Arena. Iowa State beat the Red Raiders by four points in the first contest between the two teams, but Texas Tech was severely undermanned and almost pulled off the upset on the road.
The Red Raiders are favored by 8 points at the time of publishing, but I'll take them by at least 10.
