Xcel Energy has invested $1.5 million in a grid improvement project for Wilson, Texas.

This project will convert the electrical facilities to a higher voltage, ensuring the community has the modern infrastructure to build its economy and quality of life.

KAMC News reports that this will also boost the capability of the grid to meet higher electricity demand, and will provide more options of tapping neighboring power sources in the event of an outage.

Other improvements made during the voltage conversion in Wilson were the replacement of substation transformers, the replacement of around 85 utility poles, the addition of four miles of neutral wire, the replacement of more than 60 customer transformers, and the addition of system protection devices.

Xcel Energy is also investing hundreds of millions of dollars to upgrade and modernize power grids around the region.
