The Texas Tech basketball program has found some solid momentum under the last two head coaches in identifying, pursuing, and locking in dynamic transfers looking for one last run.

They haven't all been All-Big 12 players, but nobody has benefitted more than Texas Tech in the last five years when it comes to grad transfers in college basketball. Tariq Owens and Matt Mooney nearly won you a National Championship. Bryson Williams carried the Red Raiders on his back for a large stretch of Big 12 play last year.

Kevin Obanor is going to end up as a two-year player, but he's been as impactful as the rest.

That list might have grown this afternoon with Utah Valley State big man Fardaws Aimaq committing to Texas Tech.

Now, before we get into the type of player Fardaws Aimaq will be, I do want to address his status as a college basketball player first. Aimaq, like Terrence Shannon Jr. last season and Kevin McCullar this offseason, is currently in the NBA draft process. In the interview below, where Aimaq says amazing things about Texas Tech and Mark Adams, he mentions that he's still 50/50 on staying in the draft or playing college basketball.

"As of right now, it's a 50/50 decision." Aimaq told the Field of 68, "It will truly depend on if I'm at a place (in the draft) where I think it's worth it for me to leave then obviously I'll leave." Aimaq continued, "But if it's not, I'll return to college basketball and leave a legacy at Texas Tech."

I think the odds are probably better than 50/50 that Aimaq does in fact play for Texas Tech next season, but the fact remains that it's not 100% that he does. We'll know a whole lot more about both Kevin McCullar and Aimaq's college basketball futures after the NBA Combine that starts on May 13th. Both players have until the June 13th deadline to remove their names from the NBA draft.

Alright, all of that being said, if Fardaws Aimaq is in Lubbock next season the Red Raiders got a hell of a basketball player. Aimaq is a two-time conference player of the year and is an elite rebounder with the range to space the floor. He and Kevin Obanor could be as dangerous on the floor together as Bryson Williams and Obanor were on their run to the Sweet 16.

Ryan Mainville of the Locked on Texas Tech Podcast said on Twitter that Aimaq is one of the best available rebounders and rim protectors available in the Transfer Portal. Two things you struggled with at times last season. Especially the rim protection.

Mat Norlander of CBS goes even further to call Aimaq good enough to potentially be the best player in the Big 12 next season which would mean he'd be in the conversation for the Naismith Player of the Year.

Aimaq would truly be a game-changer if he makes it to Lubbock.
