Many news outlets have reported on a supposed "Baby Savings Day" at Walmart, but what's been reported is mostly a hoax.

Which begs the question: why do people create highly deceptive nonsense like this? What's the point?

Thanks to some super sleuthing by Lite 98.7 (a fellow Townsquare Media station in the New York Area), we know that there is some truth to the story, but that the .PDF everyone and their dog was reporting on was a elaborate fake.

Here's what's really going on:

Walmart is having sales on baby items over the course of several weeks -- Feb. 2nd, 2019 through Feb. 28th, 2019, according to Walmart.com.

There are no extreme discounts or gift card giveaways.

Some stores (call ahead to make sure!) will have product demos on February 23rd, 2019, very limited sample bags and other assorted stuff, but that's via a marketing company, and not Walmart per se:

50 or fewer sample bags [will be given out] and highlighting a few toys. They will be on the floor in most stores from 10 AM - 4 PM

So, there you have it: You really can't believe everything that you read on the internet.
