U.S. Soccer Gets First Ever Win in Mexico

It was only an exhibition, or a "friendly" as they say, but the U.S. soccer team made history in Mexico City last night.

The Americans nipped Mexico 1-0 for their first win south of the border in 75 years — the U.S. had been 0-23-1 in 75 years of games at Mexico.  The U.S. previous best result in Mexico was a 0-0 draw at the Azteca in 1997.

Wednesday night's match was the first friendly played at the Azteca between the two sides.

U.S. keeper Tim Howard made some stellar saves in order to preserve Michael Orozco Fiscal’s 80^th-minute goal.

Mexico’s home-town fans were none to-pleased with the end result as the four letter networks post game commentators had to give their post-match thoughts while beer and every other liquid that could be found was hurled towards the field.

According to Sports Illustrated's Grant Wahl, the few U.S. fans brave enough to attend the match were evacuated before the final whistle.

As mentioned the game didn’t technically mean anything, but it is a huge confidence booster for Juergen Klinsmann’s squad.
