Nic Shimonek had a very strong first half, going 19-26 for 285 yards and four touchdowns. The star receiver in the first half wasn't Keke Coutee or Dylan Cantrell, but breakout star T.J. Vasher.

Vasher had two catches total in 2016. So far in 2017, before today, he had two catches for 16 yards.

At halftime against WVU, Vasher had two catches for 113 yards and two touchdowns.

The first touchdown came on a tunnel screen on the first drive of the game that went 60 yards to the end zone. The second touchdown came just one play after an epic fake punt from Dominic Panazzolo. The Vasher catch was a SportsCenter Top 10 highlight reel catch that helped Texas Tech keep the momentum moving in their favor in the first half.

The Red Raiders missed two first half field goals to only lead the Mountaineers 28-17 at the half. They held the Mountaineers to -8 rushing yards for the most surprising stat heading into halftime.
