I was very nervous about this whole situation with Terrence Shannon, Jr. heading into the season. Not nervous because I thought Shannon had broken the rules or would be suspended, but because I thought the NCAA would drag its feet until at least conference play before giving a ruling that pissed off Red Raider fans everywhere.

That was not the case, however, with Shannon himself announcing Wednesday morning that he's back:

(Great use of the Cam Newton video from the Panthers' win over the Cardinals this weekend, too.)

On November 7th, 2021, the Texas Tech Basketball program released a statement on Terrence Shannon, Jr. that read:

Terrence Shannon, Jr. went through the NBA Draft process over the summer and subsequently withdrew his name to return to Texas Tech University and the basketball program as NCAA rules allow. Out of an abundance of caution, Texas Tech is withholding Shannon from competition to ensure there are no possible issues resulting from that process and that all NCAA rules were followed. Shannon will not compete until this review process is completed. Texas Tech is working diligently to complete this review.

Only 10 days later, Shannon reunites with his team. It's a Christmas miracle! Even better: Texas Tech has confirmed that Shannon has been cleared to play immediately. Fans can expect to see him back on the court this weekend in South Padre Island when the Red Raiders take on Incarnate Word.

Shannon joins a hot Texas Tech team that features a starting lineup of Bryson Williams, Kevin Obanor, Davion Williams, Kevin McCullar and Mylik Wilson. Despite not starting most of last season, Shannon is a starter quality player who will no doubt join the starting lineup very soon.

Who does he replace? I don't know, and I don't envy new head coach Mark Adams and the coaching staff having to deal with these rotations and lineups with this deep and talented roster.
