Christmas time is hitting the South Plains hard and that means lights, trees and of course gingerbread houses. That also means it's time for the 12th annual gingerbread display to be showcased at the Overton Hotel and Conference Center just to make the holidays that much better.

This year's gingerbread display was done under the visionary guidance of Food and Beverage Director Douglas Noxon and the extremely talented culinary team. The theme for this year's display is 'Twas The Night Before Christmas' just like the poem that was published back in December of 1823, with some close ties to Lubbock. The original authors great-great-great-niece Jeanie Quest has been invited to attend the unveiling of the gingerbread display.

The Overton Hotel has partnered with the Texas Girls and Boys Ranch to raise over $20,000 to help the non-profit. The unveiling is free to attend but anyone will also be able to make a donation to the Texas Girls and Boys Ranch at the hotel front desk. For every donation made to the Texas Girls and Boys Ranch an ornament will be hung on the tree in the donors honor.

The hotel will also allow children to write their own letters to Santa as it serves as an official Santa mail stop where his letters can be picked up and dropped off at the North Pole. The unveiling for the gingerbread display will be on Tuesday, December 5, at 4 p.m. in the Overton Hotel lobby.
