Three Red Raiders Receive All-American Honors

Even in a truncated season, the Red Raiders are bringing home the hardware. The Texas Tech baseball team was off to a hot start across the board zooming off to a 16-3 record before the season was cut short on Big 12 opening day eve. Even so, with most teams playing between 15-19 games the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper All-American list was formed on a limited information basis.

Texas Tech senior second baseman Brian Klein, sophomore relief pitcher Micah Dallas and redshirt freshman shortstop Cal Conley have been named All-Americans by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper,

Klein and Dallas represented the Red Raiders on the second team while Conley was tabbed to the third team. Tech’s three selections led the Big 12 Conference and were the most in the state of Texas. This is first All-America honor for Klein and Conley and the second of Dallas's career, as he was named a Freshman All-American by D1Baseball.com last season.

Klein entered the season on some preseason lists and was hitting .391 when the season ended. Klein led the Big 12 in doubles and had knocked in 13 RBI. He also had a 1.000 fielding percentage and hit the walk-off single to beat Houston.

Dallas opened the season a the leading arm out of the stacked bullpen. In five appearances he had three saves and a 0.57 ERA. He had 23 strikeouts as opposed to a single walk. Dallas had two outings where he threw three innings and didn't allow a hit. He also dominated in Tallahassee and pitched four shut out innings against Stanford.

Conley was one of several freshmen for Texas Tech who were leading the way. Jace Jung and Nate Rombach had surged early showing impressive power, but Conley's consistency put him on the list. In 18 starts, Conley was hitting .371/.643/.444. He was also at the top of the rankings nationally in RBI, doubles, and total bases. He also had an inside the park home run against Northern Colorado that was pretty sweet.

Seeing these All-American lists reiterate that Texas Tech was on pace to have a huge season. Big 12 title, host a regional, host a super, go to Omaha. What could have been? We'll never know.
