Before we go any further here, Texas Tech swept Oklahoma State this weekend in baseball putting the NCAA Tournament selection committee in quite a pickle. The Red Raiders RPI has surged to 32 according to D1 baseball and they are ranked 5th in the Nation after beating the Cowboys three times in Stillwater.

Texas Tech is now in a prime position to win the Big 12.

TCU sits at 16-8 in Big 12 games with zero conference games remaining on their slate. Texas Tech is now in sole possession of 2nd place at 14-6. That means with a sweep of Oklahoma the Red Raiders would be outright Big 12 Champs. If Texas Tech wins 2 out of 3 against the Sooners they'll tie TCU. In this scenario, Oklahoma State could force a three-way tie if they sweep Baylor in the final weekend.

Tiebreakers don't exist for regular-season Big 12 titles, everyone just gets a share.

Alright, now that all of that is said, Texas Tech hasn't lost in Stillwater since 2014, April 6th to be exact. Texas Tech swept the Cowboys in 2018 and 2016, which means they've won 9 straight games in Stillwater. The 2020 series was not played.

So what was popular in April of 2014 when the Cowboys last won at home against Texas Tech?

Happy by Pharrell Williams was the number one song in America. After the Red Raiders lost, Brock Lesnar ended the Undertaker's 21-match winning streak at Wrestlemania 30.

Captain America: Winter Soldier was the number one movie in America the last time Texas Tech lost in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The Big Bang Theory was the number one show on Television. The LA Kings were on their way to a Stanley Cup victory and the Seattle Kraken and Las Vegas Golden Knights didn't even exist.

The San Antonio Spurs were on their way to another NBA Title. In January of 2014, Florida State won the final BCS National Championship game.

Texas Tech baseball had never been to the College World Series, but they went that season, then again in 2016, 2018, and 2019. The Red Raiders have also made 6 of the last 7 NCAA Tournaments.

They'll make their 7th in 2022.
