The Texas Rangers Drop Their Series Against the Oakland A’s
The Texas Ranger struggled yesterday as Oakland's starting pitcher Sonny Gray had one of his better starts of the year. Texas was looking to take the series with a win and help them gain some ground on the division leading Athletics. Instead, the Rangers ended up losing two of three to the Athletics and now find themselves in the uncomfortable position of being nine games out of first place. The Rangers haven't been this far out of first place since the end of the 2009 season. It was 2007 when the Rangers were this far out of first place after 72 games. That's going back to the bad old days before all the glorious playoff runs.
"I'm not worried about being nine games out," Ranger manager Ron Washington said. "We won the first game here and should have won last night, but we didn't. We lost two of three, but there is a lot of baseball left. I keep saying, 'We just have to get consistent.' We didn't quit, we fought them, we just didn't get it done."
Nick Tepesch took the loss for Texas as he went just five innings while allowing four runs on nine hits as he now sits at 2-3 on the year with a 4.38 ERA. Texas will now start a three game series against the LA Angels tonight from Los Angeles with first pitch for that game set for 9:05pm. You can catch all the action for this game on FOX Sports SW.
