2019 PREVIEW
The Cyclones have back-to-back eight-win seasons, and they did that with inconsistent quarterback play and offensive lines that either lacked talent or depth. They also had David Montgomery and Hakeem Butler.
In a role reversal this year, Matt Campbell, in his 4th year in Ames, will enter 2019 with what looks to be consistent quarterback play, an experienced offensive line, but no Montgomery and Butler. Tom Manning returns to Ames after a year abroad in the NFL. He really hopes he found himself and that the miracle he pulled off as Eric Ebron’s tight end coach can rub off on the Cyclone offense.
In true Big 10 fashion, the Cyclones enter the year with great offensive line and tight end depth, fresh running backs and a capable quarterback that won't lose them the game. In fact, if Purdy can take a step forward as a sophomore, he'll be able to win some games for Iowa State, too. It's not really up to the offense to win games in Ames, though. It's the defense that sets the tone, and pretty much everyone is back for another go.
It’s almost boring how few holes there seem to be in the 2019 Iowa State Cyclones.
