2019 PREVIEW

The Longhorns come into 2019 with lofty expectations both inside the football facility and out. With the Big 12 title game appearance in 2018 and a Sugar Bowl win over Georgia the Horns are set to keep the momentum going and meet those lofty expectations. The guy set to help the Burnt Orange meet those expectations is highly heralded hometown hero Jr. QB Sam Ehlinger.

Although the loss of WR Lil’ Jordan Humphrey does hurt, Ehlinger will have plenty of weapons at his disposal. It all starts with his big target Collin Johnson who grabbed 68 passes last year. Also in the receiving corps are Devin Duvernay, Josh Moore and Malcolm Epps who looks to solidify a spot.  You add in the RB group of Keontay Ingram, big boy Daniel Young and true frosh Jordan Whittington and that should help keep Ehlinger from having to do as much with his feet as he did in 2018 and preserve his health. The OL has shuffled around a bit with Tackles Sam Cosmi and Denzel Okafor flipping. They also add Georgia Tech transfer Parker Braun at guard. The good news is, the OL is anchored by one of the best C in the Big 12 in Zach Shackelford.

The Longhorns D might be the only thing that can unhinge the lofty expectations put on the program. The bad news? The defense only returns 3 starters off of last year’s squad which normally wouldn’t bode well for most teams. That brings us to the good news, the Horns have their leading tackler in the secondary back, Brandon Jones along with 2 young safeties with tremendous talent in Caden Sterns and BJ Foster who combined for 108 tackles in 2018. CB is up for grabs on both sides of the field.

The Burnt Orange will look to veteran DT Malcom Roach to headline a DL rotation that includes Gerald Wilbon and 340 lbs Keondre Coburn. The LB core will be anchored by Jeffrey McCulloch and they’ll look to an inexperienced group of guys fill the other spots.
