The Dallas Cowboys Part Ways with a Veteran Safety Just Five Games Into the Season

The Dallas Cowboys have decided to release ten year veteran safety Will Allen on Tuesday afternoon following the teams tough 51-48 loss to the Denver Broncos this past Sunday.  Allen signed a one-year contract with the Cowboys during free agency this past spring after a three-year stint with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Now Allen (Pictured on the left), was named the starter during the preseason and through the first two games, but was replaced by rookie J.J. Wilcox in week three's game against St. Louis on Sept. 22.  In his time with Dallas, the ten year vet notched nine total tackles in five games with three passes defensed and an interception. His coverage would come under fire in the season opener against the New York Giants, as the Cowboys surrender 450 passing yards, though Allen did grab his lone interception in that game.

Defensive coordinator Monty Kiffen hopefully has Allen's replacement ready as the team has not made an immediate move to fill that 52nd spot on the roster.  They will have to do so before they take on the Washington Redskins this Sunday.
