Chris Walker has been named the interim head basketball coach for the 2012-13 season.

Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt said that "Chris Walker has demonstrated tremendous leadership over the past month, enabling our basketball program to move forward."  Hocutt stated that he was confident in Walker's ability to lead the program.

Walker has been with Texas Tech since 2011 as an associate head coach after spending two years at Villanova as an assistant coach.  He takes the reins from Billy Gillispie, who resigned from the team on September 19th for health reasons.

Walker thanked Hocutt, President Dr. Lawrence Schovancec and Chancellor Kent Hance for giving him the opportunity to coach the team.  He also has coaching stints at The University of New Mexico and  The University of Massachusetts along with coaching the 2010 USA Select Team.
