Darren Moore caught 12 passes for 221 yards and score while Seth Doege started the 2011 season completing 23 of 33 passes for 326 yards and 3 touchdowns to lead Texas Tech past a feisty Texas State Bobcat team Saturday night.

Texas State capitalized on a short field after a Darren Moore fumble when the Bobcats were up 3-0 midway through the 1st quarter and drove 41 yards in 9 plays to go up 10-0 on Tech.

Texas Tech Head Coach Tommy Tuberville said, "It wasn't a great first half.Kind of a perfect storm for Texas State. They had the ball with the wind in both quarters with the waythat wind was shifting around."

Texas Tech took a short field and went 60 yards in 3 plays to pull to 10-7 on a Doege to Bradley Marquez 10 yard strike and the ensuing Bobcat possession had 2 TSU players collide at the the 1 yard line on the kick return which led to a Texas Tech safety on an intentional grounding penalty by Shaun Rutherford.

The scoring took a break in the 2nd quarter and after halftime Texas Tech got the scoring going midway through the 3rd quarter as Doege hit Moore for a 20 yard score to take the lead 15-10 after a failed 2 point conversion.

Texas Tech would then stop the Bobcats with a young defense to capitalize on Bobcat miscues and short fields for the Tech offense to take control put the game out of reach by the end of the 3rd quarter with a pair Eric Stephens touchdown runs going 46 yards up the middle and the other a 2 yard dive over the line to put the game at 29-10.

Texas State gained 331 yards total offense with much of those yards on the ground running an option spread in the pistol formation while Texas Tech gained 505 yards of offense with 157 yards on the ground led by Stephens' 118 yards.

Texas Tech will have the week off before traveling to Albuquerque to face the New Mexico Lobos September 17th.
