Texas Tech Athletics has confirmed in a statement Monday afternoon (June 15th) that more positive COVID-19 tests within the school's sports programs.

Last week, it was two positive tests inside the basketball program. Now, it's an unspecified amount within the football, women's basketball and men's track and field programs.

Texas Tech University said it tested all returning athletes who are attending the voluntary workouts last week. They also tested all staff that would be working with the players.

According to the school's athletics department, the procedure for a positive test includes self-isolation: "Affected student-athletes will be self-isolated and will receive daily monitoring and care from Texas Tech’s sports medicine staff. The City of Lubbock Health Department will have oversight of this process until the student-athlete has recovered."

The statement from Texas Tech Athletics continues: "Student-athletes who share living arrangements with teammates will self-isolate in a designated room provided by Texas Tech."

Texas Tech also says any positive COVID-19 test will be reported to the City of Lubbock.

Lubbock County announced 23 new cases of coronavirus on June 12th, 34 new cases on June 13th, and 10 new cases on June 14th. The latest number of new cases was 37 on Monday, June 15th.
