Texas Tech Commit Jaylon Tyson up for 6am Grind After Playoff Win
The Red Raiders only signed one high school prospect, so far, in the 2021 recruiting class and his name is Jaylon Tyson. The dynamic guard/forward is six foot six and signed with Chris Beard and Texas Tech over Houston, TCU, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and many others. Tyson is rated as a four-star prospect by 247sports.com, but recruiting expert Jake Weingarten calls Tyson a "Legitimate five-star caliber prospect."
The playoff game mentioned above was a 101-61 victory by Tyson's John Paul II Cardinals over the All Saints Saints in the TAPPS 6A playoffs. The Cardinals are currently heading toward their second straight State title with Tyson leading the way.
Tyson has a really smooth jumper and handles. He also works hard on the defensive end.
Speaking of hard work. I had seen that Tyson had led his team to a playoff win last night and didn't think any more of it. That's normal for Tyson and the Cardinals. Then, this morning, I saw a brand new video of Tyson back in the gym at 6 am working on his move set from the top of the key.
It's not rare for a basketball player to be in the gym. It is rare for a heralded prospect to be in the gym at 6 am before school the night after a playoff game. It's a glimpse into the kind of prospect Tyson can be. Beard raves about guys who grind and a 6 am session is certainly a grind.
Tyson and John Paul II now set their sights on Midland Christian as their next playoff opponent.
