Texas Tech Basketball Assistant Gets Head Job at UTA
It's been rumored for a few weeks but now it's official. Chris Ogden will take over the UTA program.
According to a release from the official UTA Athletics website the UTA Athletics Director Jim Baker says, "I look forward to Chris bringing his experience to UTA and helping us continue to set high expectations for our athletics program and guide our men's basketball team to greater heights."
Baker continues, "As a player in college, he went to four straight NCAA Tournaments and a Final Four. As a coach, he has been to numerous NCAA Tournaments, recruited some of the country's top classes and developed several NBA first round draft picks."
Ogden has spent the past 15 years as an assistant coach on staffs with Rick Barnes at Texas and Tennessee and with Chris Beard at Texas Tech. Those teams have had much success and Ogden has become a prominent name due to his ability to recruit.
In the same UTA press release Ogden said, "Having lived in Texas nearly my entire life, I have dreamed of having the opportunity to lead a program in my home state. UTA has an excellent reputation as a world-class institution in the dynamic Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex."
From Texas Tech's perspective this is a major loss, but Chris Beard and company are very proud of Coach Ogden and how he has represented this university and program.
Best of luck to Coach Ogden and the UTA Mavericks.
