The Texas Tech Red Raider baseball team will look to build off of their midweek series sweep over New Mexico when they travel to Austin to battle rival Texas at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. The Red Raiders will play their first game of the three game weekend series tonight at 6. Tech will then play UT on Saturday at 2 and wrap up the weekend with the Longhorns on Sunday, first pitch set for 1.

This is the second straight weekend that Tech will battle a Top 10 ranked opponent as they lost their series last week with then 5th ranked Texas A&M. The Red Raiders enter the game at 22-13 on the season and 5-7 in Big 12 play. The Longhorns enter the game at 25-8 on the season and 9-3 in Big 12 play. The Longhorns have also won eight of their last nine games.

Tech enters the weekend series with a spotlighted player as sophomore catcher Bo Altobelli was named to the watch list for the 2011 Coleman Company Johnny Bench Award. Altobelli is currently batting .389 for the season and has driven in 17 runs. He was one of six catchers added to the watch list earlier this week.

Tonight’s game will be the 137th meeting between the two teams with the Longhorns holding the all-time series lead at 100-36. Head Coach Dan Spencer has yet to win a series over Texas since taking over the team in 2009. Spencer is 3-4 all-time against the Longhorns.

It will be a battle of the right handers  tonight on the mound as David Paiz (3-1) will battle Texas ace Taylor Jungmann (7-0). First pitch is set for six.
