Texas Tech Baseball Picks-Up Seven All-Big 12 Honors

The Red Raider baseball team picked up some post-season accolades Tuesday as junior outfielder Barrett Barnes and junior second baseman Jamodrick McGruder were named to the All-Big 12 first team, while junior second baseman Scott LeJeune received second team honors.

Texas Tech had seven players overall that received some sort of recognition as sophomore right-handed pitcher Duke von Schamann, junior catcher Bo Altobelli and junior right-handed pitcher Shane Broyles were named All-Big 12 honorable mention while freshman shortstop Tim Proudfoot was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team.

Top conference honors went to Baylor's Josh Ludy (Player of the Year), Oklahoma State's Andrew Heaney (Pitcher of the Year), Baylor's Nathan Orf (Newcomer of the Year), Texas' Parker French (Freshman of the Year) and Baylor's Steve Smith was named the Big 12 Coach of the Year after leading Baylor to the regular season championship.

Barnes led the Big 12 in slugging percentage (.597) and total bases (123) while ranking among the top 10 in the conference in numerous statistical categories. He batted .325 (67-for-206) with 53 runs, 17 doubles, six triples, nine home runs, 49 RBI, 32 walks and posted 19-of-20 stolen bases.

McGruder was the Big 12 leader in runs (54), triples (8), stolen bases (39), walks (45) and on-base percentage (.500).  He led the Red Raiders batting .358 (69-for-193) with 27 RBI and a .503 slugging percentage. He finished the season with 22 consecutive stolen bases dating back to March 21.

LeJeune on the year batted .296 (66-for-223) with 31 runs, 16 doubles, one home run, 43 RBI and 17 walks. He tied for fourth in the conference with 16 doubles.

Altobelli had a strong junior campaign batting .346 (71-for-205), which ranked eighth in the Big 12, with 31 runs, 12 doubles, three home runs, 33 RBI and tallied 16 walks with only 22 strikeouts. His 71 base hits led the team and ranked fourth in the league.

von Schamann went 6-4 with a 2.08 ERA in 12 starts with three complete games and 86.2 innings pitched with 60 strikeouts and 12 walks allowed. He had the best ERA by a Red Raider since 2002 when Steve Rowe recorded 1.51 ERA.

Broyles led the Red Raiders with 23 appearances and tallied a 2-2 record with a 4.42 ERA in 57 innings pitched. He recorded 46 strikeouts with 20 walks allowed as opponents batted .253. He tallied nine scoreless appearances in 18 relief opportunities.

Proudfoot fielded .957 (78 putouts, 169 assists, 11 errors) while making only two fielding errors this season with nine throwing miscues. At the plate, he batted .237 (49-for-207) with 33 runs, 14 doubles, five triples, two home runs and 29 RBI.
