Texas Tech Baseball Cracks Top 10 After Perfect Weekend
Texas Tech baseball has turned their 8-1 start into a top 10 ranking according to D1baseball.com.
The Red Raiders looked especially sharp this weekend beating the University of Cal in four straight games. The series opened Friday afternoon with Davis Martin throwing a gem and the offense backing him up. That game was won, 4-2. Martin had three strikeouts over his seven solid innings.
Game 2 featured Big 12 pitcher of the week Steven Gingery picked up his second win behind a masterful seven innings of work. Gingery held the Golden Bears to just two hits, allowing only one run and one walk, while striking out seven batters on his way to his weekly honors. Senior Ryan Long had three RBIs and scored twice in the 5-1 win.
Game 3 was the second in a Saturday double header and was the closest of the weekend. The 11th inning walk off win gave the Red Raiders some valuable experience in leverage situations moving forward. The third sophomore in the weekend lineup for the Red Raiders, Ryan Shetter, struck out 10 Golden Bears in his 6.2 innings of work. Freshman catcher Michael Berglund had the game-winning RBI in extras to make the final 3-2.
The fourth and final game was an exclamation point for the Red Raiders on Sunday afternoon, as the Red Raider offense exploded for 11 runs, winning the game 11-2. Hunter Hargrove led the charge with six RBIs. The senior launched a grand slam in the fifth inning, followed by an RBI triple & single in the seventh and eighth frames, respectively.
Yet another Sophomore starter led the way on the mound, as Erikson Lanning threw five solid innings of two-run ball before giving way to the bullpen. Dylan Dusek made his much-anticipated return from injury in the 9th inning to shut the door on the Cal Bears for good.
Texas Tech joins number one TCU as the only Big 12 representatives in the top 10. Texas is the third team in the top 25 at number 21.
