Texas Rangers Complete Four-Game Sweep of Houston Astros as Yu Darvish Loses No Hitter
Monday afternoon, Yu Darvish spun another gem against the Houston Astros as the Texas Rangers won 2-1. Darvish took a no-hitter into the eighth inning before Carlos Corporan broke it up with a home run into the right field seats.
Darvish's no-hit bid was already something that would be talked about when his catcher, A.J. Pierzynski was ejected in the sixth inning for arguing balls and strikes. Home plate umpire, Ron Kulpa, ejected Pierzynski after they exchanged words in the aftermath of Darvish allowing a walk to Jonathan Villar. The walk erased Darvish's chance at a perfect game.
The Rangers two runs came in the top of the first inning with two outs. Adrian Beltre drove in Ian Kinsler on a double to left. Then Pierzynski plated Beltre on a single to center.
The Rangers have now won 13 of their last 14 games and they are in sole possession of first place in the AL West.
Darvish improved his record to (12-5) with the win. Astros starter Brett Oberholtzer took the loss and his record is now (2-1). Joe Nathan earned his 35th save of the season.
