Terrence Shannon Jr.'s NBA draft hopes are still alive and well with the Red Raider guard participating in the NBA combine this week with some rim-shaking results. It's no surprise to Red Raider fans that the uber-athletic guard is dunking on fools, but he might have raised some NBA Scout's eyebrows after this dunk over a fellow combine participant.

It impressed Sportscenter who used it on their Top 10 Plays segment on Wednesday. He came in at number 9.

Shannon's draft stock shouldn't be affected much by how he tested physically. Scouts already knew he was athletically gifted, but there are a lot of gifted athletes at the NBA combine, so Shannon's numbers didn't make him jump off the page. They also certainly didn't tank his stock either. Solid numbers.

Shannon wasn't mentioned in the box scores of the two scrimmages held at the NBA combine, so I'm working on the assumption that he's being viewed as a late second-round prospect by the people running the NBA combine. He's certainly a good enough player to be drafted with a lot of teams finding success late in the draft's second and final round. It was reported yesterday that Shannon had a meeting with the Philadelphia 76ers who traded for Zhaire Smith a few NBA drafts ago.

Just because Shannon is at the combine that doesn't mean he's going to remain in the draft pool. He's got until late July to decide if he wants to remain or return to Texas Tech. I know Mark Adams' would enjoy Shannon to have another year at Texas Tech and there is still an open scholarship for him to return to. One of the reason's Texas Tech still has room.

At the moment, ESPN’s Jonathan Givony has Shannon going at pick No. 44 to the Brooklyn Nets in his latest mock draft. I've also seen him later in the round, with a few projections sneaking into the first round. But those are rare.

Selfishly, I'm excited for the potential of a couple more TSJ tomahawk slams at the United Supermarkets arena.
