With all of the seniors that stacked the Texas Tech men's basketball team, as well as a freshman potentially going in the NBA draft, Head Coach Chris Beard has been relentless in his recruitment, trying to replace those players.

Beard got a big boost to his roster when St. John's graduate transfer, Tariq Owens, announced today that he would be transferring to Texas Tech.

Owens was an imposing big man for the Red Storm last season. He's listed at 6'10" and weighs in at 205 lbs. He averaged about 30 minutes a game, was a consistent defensive force for St. John's, and put up 8.4 points and 5.9 rebounds per game.

In one of Owens' most notable games, he went for 17 points and four rebounds when the Red Storm defeated the Duke Blue Devils back in early February.

Owens mentioned today that the biggest reason for him leaving St. John's was that he wanted to win.

That's a perfect testament to how the Texas Tech men's basketball program has turned around in the past couple of years.
