If you've lived in Lubbock for any length of time, chances are you've been touched by the dark and seedy side of life. Crime is a constant, but for the most part, life in Lubbock is peaceful, and we have few worries. We say to ourselves that it's always much worse in other cities. However, it turns out that when it comes to crime on the South Plains, there really aren't many places that are more dangerous than right here...so they say.

According to Safewise.com, Lubbock is one of the MOST DANGEROUS CITIES in America and almost at the top if you just count the lower 48 states. It certainly could be worse; we could live in Alaska.

According to this semi-scientific survey, Anchorage, Alaska is the most dangerous city in the United States, followed by Memphis, Tennessee (not a shock - I lived there, it's frightening), and then at no. 3, Lubbock, Texas.

What the what?

No, Mr. President, we can't understand it either.

Although, even here at the headquarters of Townsquare Media, we too were victims of property crime when crackheads opportunists made off with not one, but TWO catalytic converters off of our radio station fleet vehicles.

In-freaking-credible.

After Lubbock, the areas where your catalytic converter is most likely to be jacked are:

4. Detroit, Michigan
5. Springfield, Missouri
6. San Francisco, California
7. Corpus Christi, Texas
8. Shreveport-Bossier City, Louisiana
9. Stockton, California
10. Bakersfield, California

It's especially confusing to fathom this data when, if you look at this chart from SafeWise.com, it appears that people are completely undeterred by the fact that Lubbock is the epitome of the term "Danger Zone."

Lubbock's population has actually gone up more than any of the other s***holes in this list. People want to live here. Unlike, say, Memphis or Shreveport, both of which are exits on the highway to hell.

I've also lived in Stockton, California and didn't feel entirely unsafe, yet I knew that there were some areas where you simply didn't go at night. I also lived in a suburb of Memphis and had my front door kicked in at one point during an attempted break-in, so your mileage may vary. It's the idea of using common sense, the same principle applies here. Don't be stupid, and don't give criminals an easy opportunity to jack your stuff. My house is locked, and I am armed.

I love Lubbock and don't want to be anywhere else. Take what you want from this data, but I know that I feel safer knowing that Raider Red is armed to the teeth.
