The National Weather Service's Lubbock office has issued a High Wind Warning for the many South Plains counties, including Parmer, Castro, Swisher, Briscoe, Hall, Childress, Bailey, Lamb, Hale, Floyd, Motley, Cottle, Cochran, Hockley, Lubbock and Crosby.

Westerly wind speeds will become sustained between 35 to 45 MPH and gusts up to 65 MPH. Blowing dust will be a factor by afternoon, agitating allergies and creating areas of low visibility for motorists.

Wind of this magnitude is capable of damaging trees and power lines. High-profile vehicles should take caution while traveling north/south bound during this high wind event.

If you can avoid being outside during the high wind warning, it's strongly advised. Do not conduct outdoor burning and dispose of smoking materials properly to avoid the risk of wildfire. Take caution around trees and branches if you must be outdoors, due to the danger of falling debris.

Stay tuned to your local weather professionals for updates to conditions as this busy travel week continues with additional hazardous weather expected.
