A Recent Price Increase at Costco Won’t Make Bulk Shoppers Happy
It was announced this week via The Consumerist that Costco would be increasing the cost of its membership by 10 percent. Most members will feel a $5 a year pinch.
I asked some folks at the Home and Garden show in Lubbock about the increase and whether it would keep them from renewing their membership or obtaining a new membership at Costco.
I spoke with 10 different people and the majority -- seven of them -- stated that $5 was manageable. One said it was too much, and the final two didn’t seem to care one way or the other.
Jeff said to me:
“It is a cost of doing business. $5 is not going to hurt my bottom line as a business owner.”
Pat from Idalou told me:
“If they can keep the prices I pay low, then I don’t mind five extra dollars a year.”
But Pete from Lubbock was not as positive:
“It is ridiculous, why should I pay more if their prices are going up as well?”
So, there you have it -- opinions ranging from 'no biggie' to 'yup, it's a problem.'
What do you think of Costco's price increase? Does it bother you? Let us know in the comments.
