One of the things that makes the south feel like the south isn't boots, cowboy hats or that Southern hospitality that we're famous for. Another staple of living way down here is sweet tea.

Across movies and TV shows throughout the years, a tall glass of Southern-style sweet tea with a lemon wedge just screams "howdy, stranger." That said, it's the most magnificent time of year when all McAlister's Deli locations around the United States open their doors and to the community with a free and simple southern 'hello.'

In a quick interview with KFYO News, General Manager Tee of the McAlister's Deli location on Milwaukee Ave. was able to give us some insight into the yearly tradition.

Tee says that Free Tea Day started about 12 years ago as one of the many ways for McAlister's to give back to the community that supports them all year round. It's not the only way McAlister's gives back to the community, but it's definitely the most delicious.

There are some rules to Free Tea Day. According to the official McAlister's website, there's a limit of one free tea per person per in-store order and a limit of four free teas per order online or through the mobile app. There are many different tea choices to choose from whether you like sweet, unsweet, blackberry, peach and even no ice.

Free Tea Day will last all day Thursday, July 21st until McAlister's closes, but more information about this event can be found online or through McAlister's Facebook event page.
