Six Texas Rangers Players File for Free Agency
Major League Baseball's offseason is now underway and during the first two days a small number of Texas Rangers filed for free agency.
Pitchers Edinson Volquez, Shawn Kelley, and Nate Jones, catcher Welington Castillo, first baseman Logan Forsythe and designated hitter/outfielder Hunter Pence all filed for free agency.
Castillo filed for free agency one day after he was traded from the Chicago White Sox to the Rangers and had his 2020 contract option declined.
Pence finished his 13th major league season by only playing in 83 games with 286 at-bats. He hit with an .297 average, .358 on-base percentage and 18 home runs and 59 runs batted in.
Before signing any free agents, the Rangers 40-Man Roster will stand at 37 players once Joey Gallo, Jesse Chavez and Taylor Hearn are activated from the 60-Day Injured List.
