A second Kansas City Chief has opted out of the 2020 season. After a starting offensive lineman opted out last week, the starting running back does the same. Damien Williams has been a solid contributor for the Chiefs over the past two seasons and has been with the team since 2014.

Williams played in 11 games in 2019 and started six of them saving his best performance for the Super Bowl where he tallied 133 total yards and two touchdowns. The Chiefs drafted a running back in the first round of the 2020 draft out of LSU in Clyde Edwards-Helaire who will likely take the reigns as the starter early in the season.

The Williams opt-out does move the depth chart up a slot though which means former Red Raider DeAndre Washington is in line for more playing time as a Chief than was expected. Washington has been wasting away as Raider for the first several seasons but his respectable YPR and impressive receiving numbers from last season add some hope to what he can unlock with the Chiefs.

Washington will still have to fight for touches in a loaded offense and crowded running back room, but if he can prove himself in the modified training camp he could be in line for the best season of his career so far.

The cancellation of the preseason will hurt Washington in that respect with both Darrel Williams and Darwin Thompson returning being Clyde Edwards-Helaire, but if anyone knows what Washington is capable of it's his former college teammate Patrick Mahomes who has a little sway in that locker room.
