Seahorse Swim School in Lubbock Is Apparently Closed This Summer
Seahorse Swim School has been a fixture in Lubbock for as long as I can remember. I spent many afternoons splashing in the water with my kids, arguing over more sunscreen and who gets the bigger towel.
Sadly, it seems that the beloved pool and swim school, located at 35th and Indiana, has closed its doors -- at least for this summer.
While we couldn't find any official word on the pool's Facebook page about it being closed, calling the listed phone number brought up a disconnected prompt. We also sent a message to the Facebook page that we've yet to receive a response to. The last time a post was made to the page was in August 2018.
We stopped by the pool Friday afternoon (June 7th), and snapped the picture you see at the top of this article. A cover was on the pool.
There's also a thread on Lubbock-based Facebook group If you grew up in Lubbock, Texas, you remember when... that claims the pool won't open this summer.
A look through the thread, which you can see here (if you're a member of the group), features locals reminiscing about the pool and swim school. Some recalled taking swimming lessons at Seahorse more than 50 years ago.
So, why isn't Seahorse opening this summer? Unfortunately, your guess is as good as ours. We haven't been able to reach anyone at the swim school, and while the comments we've seen on Facebook may be true, we aren't able to 100 percent confirm them.
I'm looking into getting more details on why Seahorse isn't opening this summer, and whether or not it will ever open again. But right now, I'm just sad to see such a Lubbock treasure seemingly close its doors. If it's true, it's a sad day in Lubbock.
Thank you for the memories, Seahorse Swim School.
