Regional Volleyball Tournament To Make $1 Million Impact on Lubbock Economy
Nearly 130 teams from across the region are headed to Lubbock for the Sun County Regional Volleyball Association (SURVA) Lubbock Bid-Qualifier. The tournament will take place on Saturday, April, 2 and Sunday, April 3 at various locations throughout the Lubbock area.
SURVA is is an organization that operates under the umbrella of USA Volleyball. The Lubbock Tournament is the 39th and last regional Bid-Qualifying tournament before the SURVA Regional Championships in Albuquerque, N.M. on Saturday, April 29 and Sunday, May 1.
With hotel accommodations and restaurants the Lubbock Sports and Visit Lubbock estimates the event will bring around $891,000 in economic impact to Lubbock. “The group chose Lubbock because it’s a centralized area for team travel, offers a variety of gyms for tournament play and features fabulous hotels and restaurants,” Mike Wiechmann, past president of GUNS UP Volleyball Club, said.
Admission is $8 per day, and children 5 and under are free, and is open to the public.
Tournament locations include APEX Event Center, Premier SportsPlex, the Rec Center at Texas Tech University, Frenship High School, Frenship Middle School, Heritage Middle School, Terra Vista Middle School, Lubbock Cooper High School, Lubbock Cooper Middle School and Laura Bush Middle School. The games begin at 8 a.m. and end at 9 p.m. on Saturday, April 2 and begin at 8 a.m. and end at 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 3.
