Red Raider Baseball Tames BYU Cougars
The Texas Tech Red Raider baseball team stayed undefeated on the season as they won their opening game in the Brooks Wallace Classic 7-4 yesterday over BYU at Dan Law Field. The Red Raiders will square off with the Cougars again today in the Brooks Wallace Classic at 5.
The Red Raiders got the win yesterday in thanks to the play of 3b Reid Redman who finished the game with a team high 3 rbi’s. Relief pitcher Zach Fowler recorded the win for the Red Raiders as he pitched an inning of shutout baseball. John Neely got his second save of the season with 2 strikeouts in his 1.2 innings of work.
The win improved the Red Raiders to 5-0 on the season. They’ll try to stay perfect over the weekend as they’ll play three more games in the first half of the Brooks Wallace Classic. Tech is back in action at 5 with BYU and then will play a pair of games against Northern Illinois to wrap up the weekend. Tech will play the Huskies at 4 on Saturday and high noon on Sunday.
This weekend is only the first half of the Brooks Wallace Classic. The second half of the tournament will begin on Tuesday March 1st when the Red Raiders will play host to UNLV. Tech will play two games against the Running Rebels and then will wrap up the Classic with in state rival TCU for a three game set starting March 4th.
