Police Say Solis Threatened to Shoot Ex-Wife Before Standoff

More details have been released concerning what happened before the 30-hour-long standoff between Lubbock Police and 48-year-old Gene Solis.

It's said that Solis called an LPD officer the night of Wednesday, November 24th. He said that he was going to shoot his ex-wife, and that he would shoot anyone that tried to stop him. The officer tried to de-escalate the situation and informed officers of Solis' plan.

KAMC News reports that police responded to the area of the ex-wife's residence. Officers located Solis in the area, and this led to a pursuit. Solis is said to have driven to Hale Center before coming back to Lubbock and holding off in the Lubbock National Guard Armory, located at 301 Regis Street.

One of the officers said that at the armory, he heard 2 gunshots right before hearing 2 bullets going over his head. No injuries were listed.

KAMC News reports that during the 30-hour-long standoff, both northbound and southbound lanes of I-27 were blocked off. At times, only the northbound lanes were blocked, however.

Eventually, Solis surrendered to police voluntarily. He remains in the Lubbock County Detention Center on multiple accounts of aggravated assault against a public servant.
